Expressive Arts Therapist & Coach in Portland, ME

I received my BA in Literature from Bard College, and my Masters in ExpressiveTherapy from Lesley College (now University) in 1991. I was licensed as an LCPC, (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor) in 1993. I gained 16 years of professional experience in urban and rural mental health centers in Maine, and started a small private practice. I gave workshops and talks, and led groups.
When I was requested to leave my small office because of children’s excessive noise, I found a bigger and better space and expanded my practice, creating a large studio and playroom that tempted and permitted children and adults to uncover concealed aspects of themselves, and to explore new behaviors.
Covid condensed my work to Telehealth, and afterward I opened a smaller studio/playroom to return to in person work.
I was part of the founding a new public school in Cambridge, Massachussets, a food coop in Maine, in the 70’s, and of IEATA, (International Expressive Arts Therapy Association) in 1992. I soon earned my REAT, (Registered Expressive Arts Therapist), the credential offered as part of establishing the relatively new field of Expressive Arts Therapy.
I have recently relinquished my license, and transitioned to practicing as REAT and Dream Building Coach, focusing on forward movement and new possibilities.
I am mother of 4, granny of 7. I have been aspiring writer, an artists model, a waitress and a hairdresser. I love to spend time with family and friends, and to read, paint, repurpose clothing and furniture, and to travel.
